Starry Night Septet

The Starry Night Septet is a group of some of the best West Michigan jazz musicians. We have a large library of jazz & swing tunes, as well as songs in the most popular ballroom dance styles. We can add a vocalist, to really bring the feel of a swing-era big band, but in a smaller size. The term "Little Big Band" may be the best way to describe us.

Starry Night picks up Dave Pell Octet charts!

We were able to purchase a large percentage of the Dave Pell Octet library http://www.davepell.com/

Dave played lead tenor sax with Les Brown, then started his own octet in the 50's. These albums are considered classic west coast (cool) jazz, and the charts were arranged by some fantastic guys... Shorty Rogers, and Bill Holman, to name a few. These charts often take well known tunes from the great American Song Book and arranged them in clever ways to get that cool sound.

We have worked up a large number of these, and are working on more of them. This would be a great concert for your outdoor venue! We love these charts, and it shows in the enthusiasm of the guys. Solos are a bit more blended into the chart, which makes crafting a solo to fit the space perfectly a fun challenge.
